In the pursuit of all things fun, ADX keep their sanity by doing what any proper corporation would do when business is crazy…bail to Mexico.
First stop Cabo San Lucas, second stop, somewhere in Mainland Mexico.
Cabo is crazy. We know this. So we drive far away, in our sketchy little Toyota land speeder over the dunes, across the washboard roads, through the arroyos in search of perfect waves. And perfect waves we find…sometimes. Armed with an arsenal of boards, sunscreen, wax and a huge eskie full of ice, food and 40′s we bounce along with anticipation of what we may find.
As we creep over the first dune we breathe a a sigh of relief as we see that there is indeed swell and the wind is light. The calm sigh then becomes a childish scrambling to find the sunscreen, slather it on our faces, choose a board, find a leash and charge out into the warm blue water. As if there was a hurry, there isn’t a sole around for miles.
After a couple of marathon sessions we move on, 40 in hand, to the next spot. More fun, rippable lines and a siesta on the beach round out the day. More 40′s, and an insane bbq give leave us in a noodle-armed-passed-out surf coma.
Next day… same thing different beach.
On the way back towards San Jose Del Cabo, the constant consumption of 40oz. Pacifico’s and washboard desert roads and caught up to me. SO… I got out on a dune to have a piss next to the car out of the wind. Unfortunately there are lots of creepy biting and stinging critters in these remote desert lands and if you have ever seen a Tarantula Hawk you’ll feel my pain on this one. If not I will put a picture of one in the gallery. They basically look like hummingbirds but aren’t! They kill tarantulas, need I say more. SO…as I relieve myself a gust of wind was kind enough to send one directly into the tender skin in the back of my knee. My vertical jump approached an NBA star’s. After my friends’ concerned reaction, they proceeded to laugh at me and drink 40′s all the way back while I sucked down a big bottle of sympathy. A perfect end to a perfect day.
The next several days saw much of the same, perfect waves, cold beers, BBQ’s and crazy nights.
Check out the gallery for a better feel for it…
