WEST HEM ROLL Slide Jam!
New Years Day, 2012 the end of the world? Not even, just 75 degrees, summer style shredding in January! West Hem Roll organized a sick slide jam with hundreds of people to kick off the New Year.
ADX, Advanced Slide Labs, Honey Skateboards, Holesom Scented Slide Pucks, Loaded Boards, Orangatang Wheels, Änİcë SlidePucks, and Edge Boardshop sponsored the event held at Talega, California.
Slide Jams are always fun, even in the rain. But there’s something to be said for a hot “summer” day in January to get your year off to the right start. Aside from a bit of car trouble, leaving WHR with 1 tent and 2 judges down and brief interruption from the Police, the event went off without a hitch.
Andi Shaw, Jersey and the West Hem Roll crew and teamed up with ADX and posted up under one shady EZ-up for sign-ups and chilling for the afternoon, dodging riders and boards all day. A lot of people turned up to support the riders, which turned out to be at least a hundred strong! Mark Golter was on hand getting footage for Madrid, Caliber and Cadillac and brought a nice little kicker propped up on a hay bale. Chad and Wyatt Gibbs showed up with the big kicker that lead to some insane boosts from Chance, Wyatt and crew. There were a lot of new faces this time around, many of them young groms really trying to run with the big dogs. The usual suspects were on hand, Max Capps, Chance, Wyatt Gibbs, Jimmy Riha, Daniel Luna, Brett Ciabattini, the central Cal twins, and the Sector9 boys from San Diego making for non-stop entertainment all day.
As far as slide jams go we’ve seen a lot of sub-par judging over the years. This was not the case on Sunday; the judging was actually pretty on point. Even with West Hem Roll’s loss of 2 judges, Yudy and a few others stepped up and took the job seriously and did quite a good job of it.
